Staying Safe: When You Need to Call an Electrician
Electricity is something that most people living in the Western world take for granted. From lights to doing the washing, boiling the kettle...
It can be difficult to find good local Electricians. All Electricians on TrustATrader are vetted and reviewed to help you find the best trader for the job.
A good electrician can be hard to find and even when you have found one that you can trust, getting them to you when you need them is a whole other challenge. Trust A Trader has been created to take some of the stress out of finding a local trader that you can rely on, with our comprehensive directory of reviewed and vetted local tradespeople.
Choosing a local electrician can be a tricky business. Not only do you need to consider cost, but you need to make sure that they also deliver on quality and, of course, safety. We have that all covered for you; we do the research so all you need to do is browse a list of approved electricians in your area, give them a call for an informal chat or no-obligation quote, and get started!
Electricians are used to undertaking jobs of all sizes. When you get a quote, make sure that you ask if they charge per job, or per hour. If they are on a fixed hourly rate, create a list of small jobs that they can do within that one hour. They may be niggly jobs, such as fixing a light switch, fixing a plug socket to the wall, or installing an oven, but if you are paying for a full hour’s work, it is worth getting all the jobs done!
Here is a selection of reliable Electricians located across the United Kingdom. If you're looking for local Electricians near to you, please enter your location into the form field above to refine your search.

Working with electricity is a skill, and mistakes can be fatal. It is, therefore, essential that electricians are qualified. Every one of the electricians listed on Trust A Trader have been checked by us. Our vetting process is thorough, and we ensure that they have the appropriate qualifications, professional memberships and affiliations, and insurance to do the work that they have on offer. In addition, we ask each prospective trader to provide us with at least five references from verifiable customers, so that you know you can choose an electrician on our website with complete peace of mind.
If you are looking for a reliable electrician independently, protect yourself and make sure that you ask for references and double check that they are appropriately insured before they start any work in your home or business premises.
We believe that there is no one better placed to tell you about a trader listed on our site than a bona fide former customer. As well as the five references that our traders provide when they apply to join our family, we encourage customers to write live reviews direct on Trust A Trader. Reviewers are invited to outline the work that was done and give a brief overview of their experience. They are then invited to rate their electrician over six categories, including punctuality, value and overall opinion. A final star rating of up to five stars is clearly displayed on every profile, allowing you to see at a glance how others rated their experience.
It is our hope that, by reading others’ experiences with their domestic or commercial electrician, you will be able to find one that you trust. We don’t vet or edit the reviews that you make: what you see is an honest, customer-driven list of recommended electrical contractors in your area.
We are aware that most of the traders listed in our directory have a score of over four stars. This is for three reasons: 1) our traders operate to a very high standard and due to our vetting system, substandard contractors aren’t listed; 2) in the very unlikely event that a customer (or trader) is unhappy with a situation, our professional mediation service will help both customer and trader to agree to a satisfactory resolution; 3) if it is not possible to agree on a resolution and the trader is considered to be at fault, they will be removed from our directory. It is, therefore, always within the best interests of our traders to make sure that they deliver high standards of service and outstanding quality and value, every time.

The world of commercial and domestic electrical appliances is ever-changing, and it is important that electricians stay abreast of changes in legislation as well as the latest technology. Failure to do so can lead to substandard work. At Trust A Trader, we take our traders’ standards very seriously, in order to protect them and our customers. We therefore encourage the traders listed on our website to maintain relevant professional qualifications, memberships and accreditations in addition to those required by law. These help to ensure the continual professional development of our traders and trade organisations and help them to continue to provide the high standards that we expect from all of our traders.
If you want to find out whether an electrician or electrical company has trade associations and affiliations, simply look out for the logos on their profile.
