New Image Paving

"The trader has been paid £8,730 but the job is incomplete. My driveway is full of mistakes and errors. 1- incorrect slopes and falls, meaning in some places water may pan/collect toward the gulley rather than fall to the road; 2- levels of block paving meeting the curb all at various height, not consistent and an eye sore; 3- sections of the cub are crooked, after already been repaired once; 4- sections of the drive fitted with more than British Standard 3cm of sand, and per contract 3cm. In someplace 6cm-7cm of sand fitted, will cause movement in future 5- lower section of the driveway NOT dug out to the correct depth of 25cm as per contract; 6- too much concrete behind the curbs, and curbs fitted ontop of old paving blocks rather than hardcore; 7- kiln sand not fitted & final compacted for the driveway; 8- mistakes in the block paving patterns in the path plus incorrect slope i.e. too much fall; 9- Trip hazard at the driveway entrance caused by poorly fitted edging slabs and/or too much sand under the block paving; 10- There are sign of damage to the new manhole chamber, we are unable to raise the lids to access The trader wanted to me £4500 in advance, before delivery of blocks as per contract. I paid him in advance and now he doesn’t want to return. I have not in any way refused to pay the balance of £2000 upon completion of the work"

Trader reply: "It is never our intention to have anything but completely satisfied clients, and we are extremely sorry when, on rare occasions (first-time for us) our very high standards do not meet customer expectations. We completed the keykerb edgings, porch step, and layed the complete driveway using Marshalls block paving within 8 days of starting your project. This represented 96% of the contract between us. apart from a couple of issues that we were more than happy to rectify until the client insisted we take up the driveway we laid and lay more sub-base. We asked on numbers of occasions before hand were the clients happy with the levels and falls which we was told that they was more than pleased plus was happy with the quality of our work and for us to continue with the work also after parking on the sub-base a number of times just to make sure before any bricks were laid. With the client claiming that there is sign of damage to the manhole chamber is untrue as there was no chamber bricks removed, damaged or added. We just removed the old manhole cover and install the new infill recess manhole to match in with the new driveway. We have shown the client how to remove the new manhole cover so if done correctly it is easy to open/remove. With British standards plus Marshalls 50 mm/5cm layer of sharp sand is recommended which 99% of the driveway was laid on if not below and not 30 mm/3cm that the customer is claiming it should be. All levels and falls of driveway is going to the road as it's on a hall so can't hold water. Thanks for reading please feel free to get in touch anytime"
