Blunt Axe Design
Our story, thus far…
Career priorities change, I want my time to be spent working to live rather than living to work.
I love wood, I love its warmth, texture, stability & strength. I love how it feels under foot. I love how it can be shaped to fit just about any space for any requirement. I love its smell.
In my past life, I ran a garden design & landscaping business, and part of this was providing my clients with bespoke pieces for their new space. These ranged from simple structures such as raised beds to more complicated builds like custom decks to garden kitchens to sheltered entertainment areas with bespoke seating.
With a recent change in my personal circumstances, I’m keen to re-establish the carpentry side of this business. And I’m going to do so with gusto!
Now you may ask yourself why ‘blunt axe’ design. One of my most coveted tools is my carpenter’s axe, and while an axe should never be allowed to go blunt, those that do certainly have a story to tell… much like the rings of an ancient oak, or the beautiful, reclaimed timbers we aim to use for our projects.
A blunt axe always has a space in my toolbox.

Richard Rowlands - Image 1 "I now have my ultimate well built shed with larch cladding and green roof that should last hopefully for 30years plus👍 This shed has given me an excellent work space, work bench and storage for all my bee keeping equipment, tools etc Mike is very accommodating when it comes to tweaks during the build process, and pays particular to attention to detail, even down to the bespoke door handle, (nice touch) The addition of sloping window was a brilliant suggestion, allowing for a much larger work bench with plenty of light to work. The addition of the ‘Green’ roof was a no brainer with a life expectancy of 30 years plus with relatively little maintenance, also deadens the noise of the rain, making it a pleasant space to work. I am so pleased with the work Mike of Blunt Axe has done that we have further work for him to do in the near future (providing he can fit us in) Very professional in their approach to projects, I would certainly recommend Blunt Axe. Many thanks"
