Up on the Roof
Roofers are one of the most appreciated of tradesmen, and in many ways the most maligned as well. Every homeowner wants a solid roof over their head, much more so that walls or internal services, as the roofing is the most basic of requirements. Homeowners in general though have no desire to actually venture onto their roofs themselves, partially because of the danger involved and partially because of the difficulty of working once there. As such professional roofers are always in demand to fix damaged roofing, and prevent damage to ceiling, walls and internal possessions.
Professional roofers are of course in demand on building sites with the construction of new homes, but most works for roofers comes from repairing roofing and reinstalling. Roofing comes in many different forms, and professional roofers will have to know about tar, asphalt, tiles, slate, metal and shingle. Whilst some roofers specialize in materials, in general most roofers can undertake any sort of roof. A recent development has also seen professional roofers having to deal with green roofs, which in addition to being watertight also need to be able to take the weight of grass or other forms of flora.
Roofers will have to deal with different slopes on the roofs as well as different types, from low to steep slopes. Shallow roofing may not seem the most dangerous of work services, but it is still a difficult place to work. Professional roofers need to know where they can step without putting their foot through the roof material. Many amateurs even on tile roofing do not know where to put their feet and end up breaking many more tiles than they had originally had to fix. The same problems are faced by workers when they deal with steeper roofs although with much more dangerous working conditions. This and the strenuous nature of the work make roofing the most dangerous job in the construction industry.
Professional roofers are masters of their trade and there is a great deal of knowledge needed to do a good job. A thorough job comes from knowledge about waterproofing as well as materials. Few homeowners are going to have the knowledge required to do even a half decent job, and so it is not unusual for professionals to be called in. Many homeowners though do not do their research to find out whether the roofers are qualified, insured or decent at their job. A few testimonials from satisfied customers can go a long way. This failure to do research often sees the cheapest quote being picked to do the work. Is it any surprise then that the work undertaken is not what is expected from professional roofers? Poor workmanship gives the whole industry a bad name which is actually not the truth. Pick a good roofer and you will find professionals who want to do a good job, and do it to a high standard.
So it is always preferential to employ professional roofers, and to employ properly qualified ones to repair your roofing.
