The advantages of block drives
Block drives are becoming more fashionable every day. Most people who are having a home built prefer to have block drives instead of a concrete or asphalt driveway. The cost of getting a block drive sometimes stops people from getting this type of driveway that can add value to their home.
Types of block drives
If you are thinking about building a house or need a new driveway, consider getting a block driveway. Block drives come in many different styles, including cobblestone, sandstone and paver block. These types of driveways take a bit longer to install than an ordinary asphalt or concrete driveway which only take a day. However, they are well worth the extra time and expense. Unlike other types of driveways, such as concrete and asphalt, an individual can lay their own block driveway. It is time consuming, but well worth the effort as it will add considerable value to the market price of your home.
Asphalt drives
Asphalt driveways are the cheapest type of driveway you can own. This consists of stones being laid in the driveway area and being covered over with thick tar. This has to be performed by an asphalt company as the tar is actually poured from the truck. Once the tar dries, it is then asphalt. The driveway will look good for a while, but will soon start to crack and split. Asphalt driveways should be sealed in the first year and re sealed each year thereafter to get the maximum wear.
Concrete Drives
Concrete driveways are a step up from asphalt driveways. This involves setting out wooden forms as to where you want the driveway and having the concrete poured into the forms. The concrete is then smoothed out and allowed to dry. Once it is dry, it is hard and will look great. For a while. Cement always cracks and so will your concrete driveway. When it gets unsightly, you have to replace it with an entire new slab of concrete.
Maintenance free drives
Block drives, on the other hand, do not need the maintenance of asphalt nor are they expensive to repair, unlike concrete. If one of the block drives crack or break, it can simply be replaced. This is why cobblestones were so useful back in the day. Today, we are constantly tearing up streets and fixing them. These are streets that are made out of asphalt and concrete. The streets that have cobblestones- they remain as they were 200 years ago.
Not only do block drives make better economical sense in the long run, but they are much more attractive than ordinary driveways. They will also add value to your home. People would much rather have a home with a block driveway than one with concrete or asphalt.
If you are considering buying a new home or repairing an old driveway, you should consider getting a block driveway. Block drives are the best way to go to get the most attractive as well as easy to maintain driveway. Unlike regular driveways that are made out of concrete or asphalt, block drives last forever.
