Your Springtime To-do List: Preparing For Summer

Your Springtime To-do List: Preparing For Summer

As the weather slowly starts to warm up, people are probably clamouring to find a gardener or roofer or fence specialist to help them to make their exterior summer-ready. That is definitely a good idea, but it helps to plan ahead a bit, too.

We are not suggesting that you should wish the year away, but at the same time as planting spring plants and giving your garden the tlc it deserves after what seems like a never-ending winter, it is a good idea to get ahead of the autumn jobs now so that you don’t have to join the mad rush in September!

For today

Let’s start with the things that you can do now to make your spring and summer as enjoyable as possible.

Tackle your fascias and guttering

After a tough winter, your fascias and guttering probably took quite a battering. Have a quick look and see if there are any obvious signs of damage. If left unchecked, these can lead to more serious problems such as penetrating damp. If you notice damage, call a roofer or specialist to give them a once-over. If you have escaped unscathed, they will almost certainly need to be cleared; you can do this job yourself but if you prefer not to work at heights, you can get a handyman to do the job for you.

Check out your roof

While you are checking your fascias and guttering, take the time to have a good look at your roof. Can you see any loose or missing tiles? Have you noticed any mould or damp spots in your ceilings that could be the result of roof damage? If in doubt, contact a local roofer to come and take a look; many roofers offer free quotes and will tell you if you need their professional services.

Pay attention to your boundaries

Fences are a primary casualty of storms and high winds! If your fencing took a beating, or if it is looking a little worse for wear, you may want to consider replacing, repairing, or repainting it as soon as possible so that you can spend more time enjoying your garden when the summer finally arrives.

A good old-fashioned spring clean

After a long and particularly wet winter, your home may be suffering from the effects of damp and condensation, as well as general wear and tear from enforced indoor living. A good spring-clean will help. From deep cleaning carpets to clearing out cupboards, a spring clean is as good for your soul as it is for your home. If you don’t have the time (or the inclination) to do it yourself, don’t worry; check out the vetted and rated local cleaners in our online directory.
